My Favourite Dessert

A mango. What can you do with it..? Other than making my favourite dessert, or rather, the only dessert that i can make, Mango Pudding!

Its a quick and easy recipe and tastes really great! You can often find these in asian restaurants or Yum Cha places but why go there when you can make it yourself! =D

♥ Electric Love Cafe ♥

Do you remember this?
Szechuan Chicken $4.00

LoL! (: Its my szechuan chicken, aka my signature dish (actually, its the only main meal that i can cook without killing the kitchen) Haha!

On Thursday, our Food Tech Class had a multicultural cafe that we had been planning for nearly a year... its where you get into groups of 4-5 people, choose a country, select an entree, main or dessert from that country and cook and serve it to your customers. Our group, chose the country, China, since we're all asian and we chose a main course and a dessert. At first we were going to choose an asian noodle for the main but no one had used that recipe  before so we weren't sure if it'll work out correctly on that day, so i suggested my szechuan chicken. For the dessert, i had photocopied some asian recipes from some asian books that my sister had bought from Hong Kong last year. But, my friends didn't find the pictures very appealing so in the end i used a simple recipe to make Mango Pudding. We had to plan our clothing for that day, the prices, menu, our table and give out the invitations to the teachers.

This is how we decided to set our table. We made a big poster with our cafe name "Electric Love" and then we put origami stars and swans around it and a bowl of bread on top of the poster. The origami collection belonged to my friend and it took her around 2 years to fold everything (: A teacher gave us extra tips for the nice presentation of the origami! Lool =]

We ended up inviting 9 teachers. On the day of the cafe, we started to cook during 3rd & 4th period. Our group had to work extra quick because one of our team members had a huge blister on her foot and she couldn't come to school. We were so stressed because they didn't have enough of one sauce and the sauce was the main ingredient of the main dish. We had to scrape every little bit out of the jar!!! Oh, and we also had to cook the rice in a pot, which is weird because, us asians usually cook in a rice cooker >.<

In the end, everything was ok, but we just plated everything up when the teachers started to arrive!

Our goal was to earn $50 or more, so our prices were a bit expensive! The teachers thought that our meal was really delicious and we  were really happy that it was really successful. Most of the teachers gave us lots of tips and after the cafe, we still had heaps of mango pudding left in the fridge and a lot of lemon tea and aloe vera left so everyone just helped themselves with a carton! =D

Yes, our table looked like it had just been bombed xD We took over the whole bench & we also had left over rice + szechuan chicken. We gave it to a guy in our class who really liked it (:

My friends had an italian cuisine and after the cafe my friend and i decided to pig out on their left over canilloni (: It was really nice even though it was cold ^_^ Their cookies were really nice as well~ They had the normal arnotts cookies with chocolate icing and decorations on top!

                                      Canelloni               Chocolate Biscuits

The canelloni is falling apart in the photo because my friend gave me the left overs in a take-away container and on that day i catch the bus. The bus was really bumpy so it kind of fell apart when i arrived home! But it still tasted GREAT! (:

Cupcakes filled with Love ~

As you would have seen in the post before, we had organised a party for one of my best friends. Normally i would bring things like chips but since she can't eat those kinds of food, i decided to try something different! I decided to make my own chocolate cupcakes because i know that she loves everything that has chocolate (: Whether its maltesers or m&m's... she still loves them!!

I searched for a recipe and finally found a recipe from the back of Cadbury's Cocoa Powder Box. It seemed really delicious so i decided to try it. I started off with a dozen cupcakes. The recipe was really easy to follow, and believe me, if its easy for me to follow, then it is sinchicated  =D

These delicious cupcakes were supposed to stay in the oven for around 20 minutes but ended up in the oven for 30 because it was still a bit raw in the inside (): But at last they came out of the oven and they look so delicious. They were so tempting... so i took one to try. The texture was really soft and it wasn't too sweet but i could still taste the chocolatey flavour that lies it it ^_^ I was really happy that they turned out so well.
I let the cupcakes cool overnight and the next day i made the icing using the easiest recipe that i could find. I ended up using a recipe that only required two ingredients, cream & chocolate. Hehe~

I had a blocked nose so i couldn't really taste the icing . I just had to cross my fingers and hope that the icing tasted sweet and delicious. At first it was really watery so i when i put spreaded it onto my first cupcake it dribbled onto the sides. The effect looked really cool so i left it how it was. But after awhile the icing started to turn a bit gooier so it was harder to spread. I decorated it with colourful cashous making pretty patterns (: My friends really enjoyed it! Mission completed xD

BIRTHDAY PARTEEEE =D

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to Ashee, Happy Birthday to You"

Todays my bffls birthday and we decided to hold a <surprise> birthday party. We had been planning this for a few weeks but no one had actually listened to me (sadly) It was just a few days ago, that we finally assigned jobs for everyone.

We decided to:
  • Bring 2 mudcakes
  • Make cupcakes
  • Bring Chocolate
  • Bring Fairybread
  • Bring lots and lotsa confectionary xD
  • Make brownies
We had to cut down the things that we could bring for this party like chips because my friend was allergic to some types of food. Except in the end.... most people forgot to bring food because they were either really busy studying (Because its the assessment period) or they couldn't find anything to bring. But that didn't matter because we had a lot of things to eat anywayz.

We usually held party's in the Food technology room so we put all our stuff there. We also had to get up there at the start of lunch without the Birthday girl suspecting. Though someone stuffed the whole thing up by telling my friend about the party, even though it was an accident. But we convinced my friend to pretend that she didn't hear anything, just so that it wouldn't spoil our effort loolz.

People started pigging out before i even had the chance to take a photo...

She was really happy when she came upstairs to the room. She loved the presents so much that she nearly started crying :'(
We had a really great time.

I think that this is by far the coolest thing i've ever seen in my life (:
Its a music box but you twist the little bunnies in the middle and as the music box starts the ferris wheel starts rotating. It was a present from the My Friends- Best friend hehe~

Gotta Love Food Tech ^_^

Ahaa guess what i made in Food Tech on thursdaayy?
Deliecious CHOCOLATE brownies xD
They were really nice but a bit too buttery

We started making them in Prd 5 & 6 but during the first half of prd 5 we were just talking and writing down random stuff and the recipe...

It took my partner and i a long time to melt the chocolate for the base. We had an infered stove -__- While everyone else had a gas one. It took us like 1 hour to melt 200g of chocolate and butter. It wasn't really fun. In the end we had to borrow a friends gas stove and only then did the chocolate start to melt!

After a while we managed to place everything into the oven and we let it cook/ bake for 30 minutes though you're actually only supposed to cook it for 20 minutes. While that was all happening, we melted chocolate and cream for the top of the Chocolate brownie. This time our infered stove worked perfectly fine... i was so fustrated loolz.

When it was home time, our brownies were finally cooked~ Then we poured the melted chocolate and cream on top of the base and let it cool for about 5 minutes. A lot of people had to catch the bus... including me so i cut it up quickly... i burnt my finger like twice @_@ and most of the brownie got really crumbled up it wasnt funny. The two brownies that are in the picture are the only perfect ones that i could actually find.

Invention Test *_*

Guess what this is?

A Few weeks ago... we had this "invention test" at school... Its not the traditional ones (like the masterchef ones). Seeing as we're so untalented they decided to tell us the ingredients a fortnight before we made our signature dishes

So here's what they decided to give us.

- 1 carrot
- 1 zucchini
- chicken breast
- 1 potato
- 3 snow peas
You could take one ingredient off the list and add three of your own. Knowing me, i decided to make sushi, but my friends told me that it was too easy... =.=
So i thought about making pad thai since i love thai food so much~
But then i thought of another asian dish that i LOVE! Guess what it is?

Its Szechuan Chicken~
Had many obstacles to pass through but at last i garnished my dish and it looked good. But my friends looked better :) haha-

This one is my Szechuan Chicken
The One above is my friends chilli basil chicken
<Can you see her garnishes? She sliced her finger while she was cutting the pattern out... i warned her coz she was cutting towards herself... now she thinks that i jinxed her.... hmmm -_->

SZECHUAN CHICKEN RECIPE~

Ingredients
 S
  • Zucchini
  • 1 Carrot
  •  1 Chicken breast
  • 2 Garlic Bulbs
  • 1/2 cup of rice
  • Any other ingredients which you would like to add to the dish (:
Ingredients for the sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Tomato Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Hoi Sin Sauce
  • 1 tsp Soya Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Sesame oil
  • 2 tsp Chilli Bean Sauce
Method
  1.  Cook the rice and let it cool
  2. Chop the top and end of zucchini off and then cut it in half. Place it so it stands up and chop it in half again. Cut the zucchini in a diagonal gesture. Put it all onto a plate.
  3. Chop the garlic into find pieces. Peel the carrot and chop it in half. Then half it agai nlike you did with the zucchini. You can either cut it long ways or diagonally like the zucchini.
  4. Cut the chicken into thin pieces.
  5. Make the sauce (by mixing all the 'ingredients for the sauce' together).
  6. Turn on the stove and pour oil evenly on to a wok or a fry pan.
  7. Pur the garlic onto the wok or frypan and leave it until it turns brownish in colour
  8. Quickly add the chicken breast and cook until half cooked. Chicken breasts cook really fast so be careful that it doesn't burn.
  9. Add the zucchini and carrots from the plate into the frying pan. Add 1 Tbsp of water and mix.
  10. Leave it and place the lid on top until you see steam.
  11. After that, pour your sauce in and cook until it is even. Close the lid and put stove on high. When there is steam take lid off.
  12. Plate up and then add your garnish. Put all the rice into a bown and turn it upside down onto a dish to get the semi circle effect.
  13. Serve
Tutorial for the garnishes on my dish coming soon xx
Take care until then (:
